چکیده

One key issue in Peer Data Management Systems (PDMSs) is the heterogeneity of the peer schemas. To help matters, ontologies may be used as uniform conceptual representation of these schemas. In this work, we are working with geographic databases to be used in a PDMS. When dealing with geospatial data, specific problems with representation and usage occur. In this sense, we have developed an approach and a tool, named GeoMap, which builds a peer ontology from a geographic database schema. In order to provide geospatial semantics when mapping, we have defined and used a reference geospatial ontology. We present the principles underlying our approach and examples illustrating how they work by means of the tool.

Management of Semantic Annotations of Data on Web for Agricultural Applications

Geographic information systems (GIS) are increasingly using geospatial data from the Web to produce geographic information. One big challenge is to find the relevant data, which often is based on keywords or even file names. However, these approaches lack semantics. Thus, it is necessary to provide mechanisms to prepare data to help retrieval of semantically relevant data. This work proposes an...

Deriving Semantic Description Using Conceptual Schemas Embedded into a Geographic Context

Information integration and semantic heterogeneity are not trivial tasks. An integrated view must be able to describe various heterogeneous data sources and its interrelation to obtain shared conceptualizations. In this paper, we propose an approach to make a conceptualization of the real world based on conceptual schemas, which are used to generate a semantic description of the geospatial doma...

Bridging Ontologies and Conceptual Schemas in Geographic Information Integration

Integration of geographic information has increased in importance because of new possibilities arising from the interconnected world and the increasing availability of geographic information. Ontologies support the creation of conceptual models and help with information integration. In this paper, we propose a way to link the formal representation of semantics (i.e., ontologies) to conceptual s...

SemMatcher: A Tool for Matching Ontology-based Schemas

In Peer Data Management Systems (PDMS), each peer is an autonomous source that makes available a local schema. Information exchange occurs through the establishment of schema mappings between local schemas. To help matters, ontologies have been considered as uniform representation of local schemas (i.e., peer ontologies). Consequently, ontology matching techniques have been used to determine sc...
